The 5th International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention got underway yesterday in Cape Town, South Africa. For the first time, webcasts of several sessions are available via the conference website; in addition to a list of the presentations due to be made available, direct links are included in the Programme-at-a-Glance. The opening session is already online, as are presentations from Monday morning including Wafaa El-Sadr's talk on the role of inflammation in HIV infection. Late breaker abstract sessions on Wednesday will also be webcast, and these include an interesting study pointing to differences in background levels of immune activation has a potential explanation for the increased efficiency of heterosexual HIV transmission in the African setting.
